Andover Youth Lacrosse League Misconduct Policy
Purpose:
The Andover Youth Lacrosse League is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all players, coaches, volunteers, and spectators. misconduct, in any form, will not be tolerated. This policy outlines the League’s approach to preventing misconduct, responding to incidents, and ensuring a supportive environment for everyone involved.
Definition of misconduct:
Misconduct is defined as any intentional, aggressive behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or upset another individual. Misconduct can take many forms, including:
- Physical misconduct: Hitting, pushing, or any other physical harm.
- Verbal misconduct: Insulting, mocking, threatening, or using derogatory language.
- Social misconduct: Exclusion, spreading rumors, or undermining relationships.
- Cybermisconduct: Any form of misconduct carried out through digital platforms, including social media, text messages, or online games.
This behavior may occur between players, coaches, spectators, or anyone associated with Andover Youth Lacrosse League.
Expectations of Behavior:
All participants in the Andover Youth Lacrosse League, including players, coaches, volunteers, and spectators, are expected to:
- Treat others with respect and dignity at all times.
- Promote good sportsmanship and teamwork.
- Actively discourage and report misconduct behavior.
- Support peers who may be targeted by misconduct.
- Follow all League policies and procedures to prevent misconduct.
Reporting misconduct:
If you or someone else is experiencing misconduct, the Andover Youth Lacrosse League encourages you to report the incident. Reports can be made by:
- Players: Report misconduct to your coach or team manager.
- Coaches: Report incidents to the League’s boy’s or girl’s director.
- Parents/Guardians: Report any concerns directly to the League or to your child’s coach.
All reports will be taken seriously, and confidentiality will be maintained to the extent possible.
Procedure and consequences for misconduct Incidents:
Upon receiving a report of misconduct, the following steps will be followed:
1. Investigation: A thorough investigation will be conducted by the AYL Disciplinary Committee which may include Pres, VP, Directors, Coaches to understand the situation, including gathering statements from involved parties (victim, alleged bully, witnesses).
2. Intervention/consequences: If misconduct is confirmed, appropriate actions will be taken. This may include:
- Verbal or written warning.
- Mandatory meeting with parents/guardians.
- Suspension from practices or games.
- Expulsion from the League in severe or repeated cases.
3. Follow-up: Follow-up meetings will be scheduled to ensure the misconduct has stopped and that the environment is supportive for all parties.
Role of Parents and Guardians:
Parents and guardians are expected to:
- Encourage positive behavior and sportsmanship in their children.
- Report any misconduct they observe or that their child reports to them.
- Support the League’s efforts to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
Confidentiality and Non-Retaliation:
All reports of misconduct will be kept confidential, and retaliation against anyone who reports misconduct or participates in an investigation will not be tolerated. Retaliation will result in further disciplinary action.
